UPDATE 1/30/14

Due to the high number of debit and credit card re-issues in connection with the Target Breach, our debit card vendor informed us of a delay in the shipment of replacement cards to affected members. Our vendor plans to ship new debit cards to our members within the next 2-3 business days. This delay has been experienced by many financial institutions as well is its members/customers nationwide.

Those affected by this breach can continue to use their current card until the new card arrives. When you receive your new card, please call the number provided to activate it. We are extending the date for the automated deactivation of those affected cards until February 28, 2014. And we will continue to monitor those cards for any fraudulent activity.

We apologize for this delay. And we want to thank those affected members for their continued patience as we help them through this recent merchant breach.



Credit union takes proactive steps to protect accounts after Target security breach.

Greenville Federal Credit Union continues to monitor the Target Security Breach affecting Target customers who used payment cards at Target stores between November 27 and December 15, 2013.

We have identified Greenville Federal Credit Union credit and debit cards that appear to be at risk. To ensure the overall safety and protection of our members’ accounts, the credit union has proactively ordered replacement cards for those impacted members at no expense. If your card was affected, you will receive a letter from Greenville Federal Credit Union.

Based on the information provided to date, the recent compromised data is insufficient to create a risk of identity theft. The credit union continues to have some of the best fraud prevention detection software and measures in place to reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions. Members are still encouraged to monitor their accounts closely and report any unknown or suspicious transactions. Doing so will eliminate any liability for fraudulent activity on your accounts. 

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to those members impacted. However, we feel that replacing those cards is necessary to protect those accounts from future risk.



Target Corporation Security Breach Frequently Asked Questions 

I recently shopped at Target and used card to pay for my purchases. Is my card at risk?

We have identified all credit and debit cards that appear to be at risk as a result of the recent payment card compromise at Target. To ensure the overall safety of our members' accounts, we are contacting all impacted members and replacing their cards. If your cards were affected, you will receive a letter of notification from the credit union. 

We encourage all of our members to follow these tips to help ensure the safety of their accounts:

  • Review your account activity using Online Banking and/or Mobile Banking
  • Sign up to receive Text and Email Alerts to be notified of transactions on your Greenville Federal Credit Union credit card and checking accounts
  • Sign up to receive Online Statements for faster and more secure delivery of your account statements
  • Monitor your account statements for suspicious account activity
  • Contact us immediately to report any suspicious or unknown transactions on your accounts

Should I cancel my card to block any further transactions and order a new card?

We are in the process of replacing all of the cards that have been identified as being involved in the Target card compromise. If you have seen unauthorized activity in your account, please advise us immediately and we will disable your card to prevent any further transactions. If your cards are unaffected and there is no unauthorized activity on your accounts, there is no need to cancel your cards and order new ones.

If you determine that my card was affected, what will you do?

We are in the process of replacing all of the cards that have been identified as being involved in the Target card compromise. If your cards were affected, you will receive a letter from us. If you see unauthorized activity on your account before your new card arrives, please advise us immediately and we will disable your card to prevent any further transactions. If there is no suspicious activity on your account, you may continue to use your current card until your new card arrives. When you receive your new card, call the number provided to activate it. Your old card will automatically deactivate on February 28, 2014. You should destroy your old card once your new card is activated.

Do you know if the PIN for my card was compromised?

On December 27, Target updated its announcement to advise that encrypted PINs were also among the compromised data. Target further reports that the PIN information was fully encrypted at the keypad, and remained fully encrypted, PINs remain safe and secure.

Should I be concerned about identity theft as a result of the Target card compromise?

The information that was on the card is not sufficient to jeopardize your identity. Nonetheless, under federal law, you are entitled to one free copy of your credit report every 12 months from each of the three nationwide credit reporting agencies. You may obtain a free copy of your credit report by going to www.AnnualCreditReport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228.

If I see fraudulent activity on my accounts, am I responsible for the losses in my accounts?

No. But we need your help. If you monitor your accounts and report any suspicious activity promptly, you are not liable for any losses incurred. That's an important reason for reviewing your account activity regularly.
