Upstate Credit Unions raise over $40,000 for Children’s Hospital project.

Greenville, SC – Upstate Credit Unions and the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation completed its Second Annual Golf Tournament benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Greenville Health System at the Preserve at Verdae on October 7, 2013. With more than 30 teams, the event raised over $40,000.

“We far exceeded our expectations with our golf tournament,” said Greenville Federal Credit Union Vice President Matt Tebbetts. “In the cooperative spirit, credit unions and our partners came together for a common bond to help our community. I don’t think you will see that with our competition. And that’s why credit unions are a better option. We genuinely want to help and give back to our community. And this project is just one of many examples.”

The money raised will go towards a $300,000 pledge from Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. The Foundation represents 169 credit unions in both North and South Carolina. “Giving back is a core value of credit unions and aligns with our collective philosophy of people helping people,” said Carolinas Credit Union Foundation President and CEO John McGrail. The pledge will go towards renovating the entrance area for pediatric patients here in the Upstate.

Renovation of the existing Children’s Hospital lobby and entrance began in early 2013. Once complete, the space will be more colorful and child-friendly and house interactive games and toys, as well as an existing fish tank – a common element seen throughout all GHS Children’s Hospital facilities.

“We are grateful for our partners like the Upstate Credit Unions and its Foundation, who give so generously to help better serve our patients,” said Dr. Bill Schmidt, medical director of GHS Children’s Hospital.

A ground breaking event will take place at the Greenville Children’s Hospital on December 3 at 10:30 AM. Many local credit union and GHS representatives will be onsite welcoming this phase of the Children’s hospital lobby.
